Game 2 of the NBA Finals from Miami. After winning Game 1, LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and the Heat are a step closer to winning a championship in their first season together. Dallas needs a win to avoid falling behind 2 games. I’ve got nothing to do all night, so I’m bringing out the 1st Live Manly Minutes. I’m giving you instant reactions and commentary as the game goes on. Let’s get to it.9:09 – And we’re off, less than a minute in, and we get our 1st close-up of Dirk’s injured finger. For those of you who don’t watch ESPN, Dirk tore a ligament in a finger on his left/non-shooting hand. ESPN has treated this like he’s playing with a broken leg. The over/un
der for close-ups on his finger is 67.9:11 – Mavs guard DeShawn Stevenson crashes into the 1st row. I guarantee you that is the first time the rich people sitting coutside have ever been tackled by a guy who has a tattoo of Abraham Lincoln’s face on his neck. Seriously, DeShawn has Honest Abe’s face tattooed on his neck.
9:14 – We’ve got back to back 3pointers by 38-year-old Mavs guard Jason Kidd and 33-year-old Heat guard Mike Bibby. Neither got more than an inch off the ground. Is this the NBA Finals or an old man church league?
9:20 – Just back from our 1st commercial break and sideline reporter Doris Burke is modeling a finger brace to show what Dirk’s brace looks like. Also, that is the first time “Doris Burke” and “modeling” have ever been used in the same sentence. (Sorry Doris, just kidding. Sort of.)
9:21 – And on cue, we get about 9 close-ups of Dirk’s finger.
9:30 – LeBron with a great follow up dunk followed by banshee scream. I think the Heat could become a lot more likable if they didn’t follow every dunk with a celebration like a fat lady on the Price is Right.

9:31 – Yes! First JJ Barea sighting. Is there anything better than cheering for a 5’8 white guy in the NBA?
9:34 – Talk about 2 extremes, man/beast LeBron nails deep 3 then boyscout look-a-like Barea answers with driving layup. Seriously if this guy scored more than 1 basket in a college intramural game, the guy guarding him would get made fun of all semester yet he’s the 3rd leading playoff scorer for team in the NBA Finals.
9:39 – LeBron basket followed by Barea basket...seriously.
9:42 – Dirk nails a jumper. Mavs are shooting 60%. That’s a recipe for success.

9:47 – Barea with a coast-to-coast layup and draws a foul. Sidenote: he dates Miss Universe. He is an American hero. I don’t care that he’s from Puerto Rico. That’s a US territory, so he’s my American hero.
9:49 – Barea dives on the floor for a loose ball and lands on Mike Miller. Miller tries to slap Barea and gets a technical foul. Dirk hits the free throw. Little JJ is changing the game.
9:52 – Dwayne Wade changes the momentum with 2 dunks. Timeout Dallas. Entertaining game so far. Both teams are playing hard even if a little sloppy.
10:02 – Wade misses a layup and cries for a foul. LeBron jumps up from bench crying for a foul. Meanwhile, the Mavs rush down court and get a layup. The Heat call timeout just so Wade, LeBron and Coach Spo can continue to cry. Starting to see why Charles Barkley called
the Heat a “whiny bunch.”10:05 – Return from commercial and Mavs called for a foul within 2 seconds. I guess a crying LeBron gets what a crying LeBron wants.
10:07 – Another cheap foul called on the Mavs. That one was for Wade’s crying.
10:08 – Announcers just said Chris Bosh is from Dallas, but was a Spurs fan as a kid because the Mavs weren’t good. So what you’re saying is he’s been a bandwagoner since birth?

10:09 – Mavs called for 3rd straight cheap foul. Mario Chalmers sent to the line but misses both free throws. Hey, as the wise philosopher Rasheed Wallace always said “Ball don’t lie.”
10:12 – Wade with a big 3pointer ties the game going into the half. The Heat have all the momentum.
Halftime Notes
Heat Positives – Dirk looks bothered by Miami’s tough defense, LeBron and Wade have combined for 33 points and missed 5 total shots
Heat Negatives – only 6 for11 from the free throw line, have 5 total assists, and premature celebrations and exaggerated complaining continue to make them most unlikeable team since Iceland’s junior national hockey team that Gordon Bombay had to teach a lesson to

Mavs Positives – outrebounding and outassisting Heat, still tied while Dirk is clearly struggling
Mavs Negatives – Have no answer for Lebron or Wade, 2nd leading scorer Jason Terry still isn’t making shots, and no team featuring a player who looks like a waterboy has won a major basketball game since Newman got that big rebound against the Monstars in Space Jam
2nd Half
2nd Half
10:34 – First possession of the 2nd half, Dirk gets stripped and LeBron gets a dunk. I’m going to guess that was the exact opposite way the Mavs wanted to start the half.
10:36 – 2nd Mavs turnover and Wade gets a dunk…oh boy.
10:37 – 3rd Mavs turnover and another LeBron dunk. Timeout Mavs. This could get ugly real quick.
10:45 – Mavs have 5 turnovers in 6 minutes, and Mavs coach Rick Carlise gets quick technical foul. Bibby makes another 3, and the Heat may be pulling away.
10:48 – 1st major sign of trouble in Dallas = Brain Cardinal just entered the game. He’s played a total of 8 minutes all post season…good god. Also, Mavs just turned it over again. And B
ibby hits another 3. Dallas calls another timeout and looks to be in major trouble.
10:52 – And the Brian Cardinal Experience is over as he’s taken out. Total contributions: 1 minute played 1 foul.
11:01 – Just showed Steve Nash in the crowd looking very cozy with a hottie. May or may not be his wife I have no idea, but damn those Canadians get all the chicks. Bibby hits another 3 to keep Miami up 6.
11:02 – End of 3rd, and Miami is up 75-71. Weird game so far, the Heat have dominated the last 2 quarters, forced 13 turnovers, and have been guarding Dirk extremely well yet are only up 4. It feels like they should be up 40.
11:10 – Stop if you’ve read this before…Mavs commit a turnover, and Wade gets a dunk. Mavs call timeout. Next possession, Mavs commit a turnover, and the Heat get a fastbreak. This is getting repetitive.
11:17 – Bosh gets a follow up dunk, screams like a woman, the Mavs turn it over again, and the Heat go up 12. The Mavs need to make a stand now.

11:19 – Wade hits a 3 to put Miami up 15 and poses for 25 seconds while LeBron screams in his face. The heat are playing great, but they’re still acting like asses.
11:31 – Hold up. The Mavs make a mini-run, and Dallas is back within 7.
11:33 – Kidd hits a 3, Terry makes a jumper, and now the Mavs are only down 4. So to recap, Dallas commits 17 turnovers, Dirk shoots 6-17, and they’re only down 4 with 3 minutes left. Very strange.
11:36 – Finally the Heat commit a turnover and Dirk follows with a bucket to close the gap to 2. This is getting wild.
11:38 – Crazy sequence: LeBron misses a 3, the Heat get the rebound, LeBron misses another 3, there’s a scrum/battle royal for the rebound, the Mavs come up with the ball, and Dirk makes a layup (with his LEFT hand and injured finger! Holy Hell, ESPN!) to tie it with 1 minute left. Dallas is on 17-2 run. This is going to be good.
11:41 – DDDIIIIRRRKKK with a huge 3! The Mavs are up 3 with 26 seconds left. For the great game Wade has had, he’s been missing these last 3-4 minutes while he’s being guarded by a 68 year old point guard. Definitely one of the weirdest games I think I’ve ever watched.
11:42 – WOW….off the inbound Mario Chalmers is left wide open and hits a 3 to tie it. That Dallas lead lasted all of 2 seconds. Jason Terry left him wide open for no apparent reason. They just showed Terry on the bench and he’s either asleep or high. 24 seconds left, Dallas should be able to hold it for the last shot, and it has to be Dirk right?
11:45 – And Dirk with a big layup. He beat Bosh and finished with a nice scoop shot with, you guessed it, his left hand. The TV guys are going to eat this up. Meanwhile, Wade heaves up a running 3 at the buzzer that bounces off the rim, and the Mavs win it. One of the weirdest, craziest, most entertaining games I’ve ever seen. By the way, Dirk’s scored the Mavs last 7 points, 4 of them with his left hand and the injured finger that everyone was talking about for days. I guess it's ok.
After all the struggles, Dirk finishes with 24 points on a respectable 10-22 shooting with 11 rebounds. LeBron missed his final 4 shots, and Wade didn’t score a single point in the last 7 minutes. The series goes back to Dallas now on Sunday tied 1-1. I’m really not sure what to make of what I just watched. Miami thoroughly outplayed Dallas for the majority of the game, yet lost. Dirk looked frustrated all game, yet scored the final 7 points to steal the game. LeBron and D-Wade looked like they could get to the basket any time they wanted, yet neither scored a field goal in the last 7 minutes. I don’t know what just happened, but I enjoyed it. I hope Sunday is just as fun. And, that I can watch a guy who is shorter than his coach score some points.
